# Clay LinkedIn automation: Clay to LinkedIn, in one column.

Enrich in Clay, then send every row straight into a LinkedIn sequence. Any Clay column becomes a message variable, and replies flow back to your table.

**In short**

Add an HTTP API column in Clay that POSTs each row to `https://api.salesmix.com/v1/sequences/:id/leads`, with the row ID as the `Idempotency-Key`. Map columns to variables like `{{first_name}}` or `{{signal}}`. Subscribe a Clay webhook table to SalesMix events to see accepts and replies.

## What you get

- **No CSV exports.** Rows go from Clay into a running sequence as soon as enrichment finishes.
- **Enrichment in every message.** Use any Clay column as a `{{variable}}` in connection notes, follow-ups and InMails.
- **Safe re-runs.** The row ID as an idempotency key means a re-run never enrolls the same person twice.
- **Results back in Clay.** Webhooks tell you who accepted, who replied and with what intent.

## Step 1: Create the sequence in SalesMix

Build your LinkedIn sequence in the [campaign builder](https://salesmix.com/product#builder) or create it from JSON with the [SalesMix API](https://salesmix.com/api). A typical Clay flow is profile visit, connection request, wait, then a follow-up message if connected. Copy the sequence ID (it looks like `seq_8Fk2`) and create an API key in your SalesMix settings.

## Step 2: Add an HTTP API column in Clay

In your Clay table, add an HTTP API enrichment column. Set the method to POST, the URL to your sequence's leads endpoint, and add two headers: your API key and an idempotency key built from the Clay row ID. Then map columns into the JSON body.

**POSTClay → HTTP API column**

```
// URL
https://api.salesmix.com/v1/sequences/seq_8Fk2/leads
// Headers
Authorization: Bearer {{SalesMix key}}
Idempotency-Key: {{Row ID}}
// Body
{ "leads": [{
    "linkedin_url": "{{LinkedIn Profile}}",
    "first_name": "{{First Name}}",
    "company": "{{Company}}",
    "custom": { "signal": "{{Hiring Signal}}" }
  }] }
// → 202 Accepted
{ "enrolled": 1, "skipped_duplicates": 0 }
```

Tip: add a run condition so the column only fires when the LinkedIn URL is present and the row passes your filters. That keeps unqualified rows out of your sequence.

## Step 3: Map Clay columns to message variables

Standard fields like `first_name` and `company` are available as `{{first_name}}` and `{{company}}`. Anything you put inside `custom` becomes a variable too, so `"signal"` above is available as `{{signal}}`.

| Clay column | JSON field | Use in messages as |
| --- | --- | --- |
| LinkedIn Profile | linkedin_url | Required, identifies the lead |
| First Name | first_name | {{first_name}} |
| Company | company | {{company}} |
| Hiring Signal (AI column) | custom.signal | {{signal}} |
| Recent post summary | custom.recent_post | {{recent_post}} |

Short, specific variables work best. A one-line Clay AI column like "mention their new SDR hiring push" beats pasting a whole paragraph into a connection note. For ideas, see our [LinkedIn connection request templates](https://salesmix.com/guides/linkedin-connection-request-templates).

## Step 4: Send results back to Clay with webhooks

Create a webhook table in Clay to get a receiving URL, then subscribe it to SalesMix events with `POST /v1/webhooks`. Useful events for Clay are `connection.accepted`, `message.replied` and `lead.intent_changed`. Each event arrives as a signed POST with the lead, account, sequence and step attached.

**POST/v1/webhooks**

```
{
  "url": "https://your-clay-webhook-url",
  "events": ["connection.accepted", "message.replied", "lead.intent_changed"]
}
```

In Clay, look up the original row by LinkedIn URL so each person's status sits next to their enrichment. From there you can route interested replies to your CRM, or use the [HubSpot integration](https://salesmix.com/integrations/hubspot) to do it for you.

## Running Clay at volume

One Clay table can fill a sequence faster than one LinkedIn account should send. SalesMix spreads leads across your connected accounts, and each account keeps its own daily limits, working hours and warm-up. If you're adding new accounts to handle the volume, follow our [LinkedIn account warm-up schedule](https://salesmix.com/guides/warm-up-linkedin-account) first.

Agencies running Clay for several clients usually connect many accounts. That's what the Unlimited plan is for: $1,999/mo with no cap on accounts, or $1,000/mo locked for life for the first 10 founding customers, by [application](https://salesmix.com/apply).

## Clay integration questions

### ### How do I send leads from Clay to LinkedIn?

Add an HTTP API column to your Clay table that sends a POST request to `https://api.salesmix.com/v1/sequences/<id>/leads`. Map the LinkedIn profile URL and any other columns into the JSON body, and each row that runs becomes a lead in that SalesMix sequence.

### ### What if Clay re-runs a row?

Set the `Idempotency-Key` header to the Clay row ID. A retried request then returns the original result instead of enrolling the lead again. SalesMix also deduplicates leads by LinkedIn profile URL.

### ### Can I use Clay enrichment in my LinkedIn messages?

Yes. Put any Clay column in the `custom` object of the request, for example a hiring signal or a recent post, and use it in your messages as a variable like `{{signal}}`.

### ### Will a big Clay table make my accounts send too fast?

No. The API queues leads; it doesn’t bypass pacing. Every action goes out inside each account’s daily limits and working hours, spread across your connected accounts. See the [LinkedIn limits guide](https://salesmix.com/guides/linkedin-automation-limits).

### ### Can I get results back into Clay?

Yes. Subscribe a Clay webhook table to SalesMix events like `connection.accepted` and `message.replied`, then look up the matching row by LinkedIn URL to see who accepted and who replied.

### ### Which plan do I need for the Clay integration?

Any plan. The API and webhooks are included on Starter ($99/mo for up to 5 accounts) and Unlimited, and in the 7-day trial. See [pricing](https://salesmix.com/pricing).
