As a small business owner myself, I know how difficult it is to succeed, even under the best of conditions. The current economic climate makes it doubly difficult. This website is devoted to every small business owner that just can’t afford to waste a dime in marketing or any other expense.
Unlike most internet marketers, my business roots are in brick and mortar. Specifically the construction, manufacturing and retail sectors. I know what its like to have a payroll of 30 + employees and a bank account that won’t cover it 2 days before payday. I know the frustration of being locked into a ridiculously expensive yellow page ad for 12 months, not knowing what, if any, return to expect on the investment. I have found myself sweating bullets when I have run newspaper, radio and direct mail campaigns that have resulted in zero traffic. Looking back, I am relieved that those worries are so 20th century and have zero bearing on the current small business marketing environment.
Unless of course you are still operating in a 20th century mindset in the year 2009. If you own a restaurant and have never heard of yelp, you have a problem. If you are a contractor and not using Angies List, you have a problem. If you have any business of any type and are not taking advantage of Craiglist, you have a problem. If you don’t know the difference between twitter and kitty litter — well, you get my point.
The bottom line is this: Do it yourself internet marketing is CHEAP. A small percentage of small business owners “get it.” If you are a small business person reading this blog you have a HUGE advantage over the competition.
Step one – go to salesmix.com and claim your small business listings in Google, Yahoo and Bing. We make it easy for small businesses in the US, UK, Canada, Australia & New Zealand to check and claim their local listings. If you have your own blog or website, you can even put this widget on your site. Step 2 – read all of the local internet marketing information on our website. Don’t get overwhelmed. Set aside a few minutes a day or a couple of hours a week for internet marketing and watch your web based sales mix take off!
In closing, please subscribe to our blog & leave us a comment or suggestion. This is a work in progress and your feedback along with any bug reports or suggestions are appreciated:)
Now get out there and sell something!
